Musts: Change the grid background! Either make the grid wider and the grid lines subtler or drop it altogether. And, the calendar needs its own background color, one that contrasts well with the calendar dates.

The grid is now larger, but a more subtle gray. I should set up Alex King’s WordPress style switcher.

Much more legible! Longer term, think about a visual treatment that’s evocative of your weblog’s primary purpose. For example, a theme with oversized, blurred or distressed portions of GUI elements.
