More Sound Sight Browsing

Visual iTunes Browsing — now with more widgets!

The pop-up menu in the center of the column header would allow the user to sort the relevant content different ways, in either list or thumbnail view.

For artists:

  1. Name
  2. Date Added (when the first track tagged with them as the artist was added to the user’s library)
  3. Album Count (number of albums by the artist)

If you think some of these are of questionable utility, I agree. The real value would be in sorting albums.

For albums:

  1. Name
  2. Year (first or last year for albums recorded over several?)
  3. Number of Tracks

As in other applications, the divider between the two header rows would allow the columns to be horizontally resized and the triangle widget to the left of the scrollbar would allow the sort order to be inverted (!-Z, Z-!).

Is the added functionality worth the visual clutter?
