AbiWord’s Stylist formatting palette could be substantially improved by making it WYSIWYG and reorganizing items.

• The current Lists section
• Lists with markers and more logical grouping
  1. The markers make it easier to visually locate the desired list style.
  2. Related list types are grouped together.
     • Ordered lists first (upper case on top, lower below).
     • Simple geometric shapes next.
     • Miscellaneous symbols at the bottom.
  3. Assuming it doesn’t cause accessibility problems, the simplified names make for easier visual scanning.

Heading styles could also benefit from WYSIWYG:

• Headings with style applied
