Notes

  1. The scaling would work similar to the Mac OS X Dock. Several years ago, I saw a demo of what I felt was a less disorienting version of scaling. Rather than moving the objects to the sides horizontally, the magnified object was pushed “in front” of the others, which remained more or less stationary. I can’t find the link to the online demo.
  2. The timeline would allow continuous horizontal scrolling.
  3. Click on an appointment to lock that day into focus.
  4. Ernst Stavro Blofeld is a busy man.

This design would be best for a short-range view like those provided by various Konfabulator and Dashboard widgets. I’ve got a few ideas for a more complete calendar design.

  1. I’m trying to decide if the fact that the times do not line up across multiple days would be a usablilty drawback… Did you consider that?

  2. That is a potential problem, but I think the position of the hour indicators is enough to make it negligible. The more common table view does have the advantage of consistent positioning.

  3. Even-t had a similar concept where the selected day is much wider than the other days. This becomes really helpful when looking at multiple calendars at a time,

I’m all for mashing up other data types with Dock-like magnification interaction,
