iPhone Power Settings
September 7th, 2008
Mike Davidson posted a critique of the number of steps required to change battery life-extending settings on the iPhone. Off the top of my head, I proposed what I mocked up and posted below; an always available means of switching among configurations.
- Tap the battery icon at the top right of the screen. This target is potentially problematic given the relatively small size and its proximity to other controls.

- Tap the name of a configuration to activate it or the disclosure button to the right of the label to view/edit its details. The Add button opens an Untitled configuration with the default iPhone settings.

- Edit the settings by sliding one or more sliders or tap the oval to edit the configuration name.

- Edit the name and tap Done. The sliders remain manipulable.

- The configuration has been renamed. Tap the OK button to return to the configurations list.

November 12 Update: Minor changes to better follow iPhone conventions, larger thumbnails with alpha channels.

Yes! While this implementation isn’t by any means perfect, it’s still a damn sight better than the convoluted method currently used.
I have no experience with the SDK at all - presumably it’s not possible for an application to change these system settings?
Is this a joke?
Does this apply to iP 3G as well? Can’t tap on the battery icon.
Please advise.
To XTA777: You could try tapping that battery icon until you turn green ;)
The keywords here are what is said in the first paragraph: “Off the top of my head, I proposed what I mocked up and posted below—”
This is no joke, but rather a proposed solution to power management on the iPhone. I.e. the author (Membranophonist) has created a series of screenshots of how he envisions one solution.
Not bad at all ;)

is this just for the new 3G iphone only ?
