Being a musician and big proponent of metadata, I frequently add musician credits in the Comments field of music tracks. Like lyrics, comments could be displayed atop the album cover image in the Now Playing view.
That feels a bit busy to me. I also love metadata with my music, I think taking an approach similar to
close captioning in sync with the music would work as well. I would love the supplemental material and fold outs of my vinyl records to have a digital counterpart. Maybe a new image, for each song. Using core animation to pull out of the main cover art exposing a grid view of additional images, then pushing back into a new image with the corresponding track and metadata.
