If you are interested in hip-hop, I recommend Dan Charnas’ The Big Payback: The History of the Business of Hip-Hop. The early years of the music itself are given some description, but the book is, as the title says, about the deals between artists, promoters, label executives, and radio DJs that brought the music and culture from New York City to the world.
